Are You Our New General Manager?

The General manager reports to the Nickel Plate Cross Country Ski Club board of directors. The role is a year-round position with reduced hours in the off season, totaling 1480 hours per year.

    The Nickel Plate Nordic Center is operated by Nickel Plate Cross Country Ski Club under a management agreement with Recreation Sites and Trails BC and is located 40 minutes from Penticton.

    Situated at 1800 meters of elevation, Nickel Plate has a ski season with great snow conditions that stretches from early November to the end of March. The center has 45 km of groomed ski trails, 3 kms of dog friendly trails and 22 kilometers of snowshoe trails.

    Our facilities include a 4000 square foot day lodge, heated indoor washroom facilities and 1200 square ticket office/rental building.


      The Role:

      The position is responsible for the delivery of all operations at Nickel Plate Nordic Center including but not limited too:

      • Hiring and managing a paid staff consisting of groomer operators, ski instructors, and office / retail staff, including directing and managing the activities of the club’s volunteers. This includes performance management of staff and volunteers.
      • Developing and maintaining a quality trail grooming program.
      • Managing and preparing the operational budget of the Centre in conjunction with the Board of directors.
      • Managing the Health and Safety program for the center and ensuring compliance with WorkSafe BC regulations.
      • Summer trail maintenance program.
      • Management of ticket office /rental shop.
      • Communications with membership, website content and maintenance.
      • Facility maintenance.
      • Marketing and advertising.
      • Program deployment including Skill Development programs, Ski S’Kool, adult and master’s programs.
      • Implementing Safe Sport policies with staff and volunteers.
      • Represent Nickel Plate to club members, the public, various governments including First Nations, and other industry groups.
      • Ensuring all operations meet legal requirements and are conducted in an ethical manner.
      • Ensuring all Nickel Plate users have an absolutely wonderful on snow experience!

      Applicant Requirements:

      • Demonstrated strong abilities in communication and interpersonal skills, problem-solving and priority setting skills, budgeting and cost control skills.
      • Demonstrated experience in showing initiative and the ability to follow through on commitments.
      • Experience in managing teams.
      • An understanding of nordic ski operations and hands-on involvement in the nordic ski environment either as an employee or volunteer.
      • Demonstrated ability to work with a range of different groups including reports, volunteers, government, and customers.
      • CANSI or NCCP certification.
