Today, we officially renamed our day lodge to Colleen’s Lodge in memory of Colleen Schneider, a beloved long-time member and volunteer who left an indelible mark on our community.

We gathered at the lodge to honor her legacy and unveil two beautiful new signs—one outside, welcoming everyone who arrives, and one inside, a reminder of the heart and spirit that Colleen brought to Nickel Plate.

Colleen’s passion for this place and the people who call it home was truly something special. Her warmth, generosity, and love of the outdoors touched us all, and now her name will always be part of the place she cherished.

We are deeply grateful to her husband, Ernst, whose generous donation in Colleen’s memory made this tribute possible. As we move forward with refreshing the lodge, starting with the new roof this spring, we will carry her spirit with us—one of community, kindness, and love for the trails.

Thank you to everyone who joined us today, and to all those who hold Colleen in their hearts. Her legacy lives on in every sunrise over the mountains and every trail we ski.

We have some pretty amazing instructors up at Nickel Plate...all season long they run our school group classes and we get to have schools from all over South Okanagan come up and visit us for 1-3 sessions.

If this is something that you think your school, group or club would be interested in, reach out to us and we can discuss options for next season.

This may be the last week for school groups but there is still lots of good spring skiing to be had! Come visit us from 9-3, 7 days a week!

Nickel Plate Nordic Ski Club is pleased to announc

Nickel Plate Nordic Ski Club is pleased to announce that as of March 22nd, 2025, our day lodge will be renamed “Colleen’s Lodge” in memory of Colleen Schneider.

Colleen was a long-time club member and volunteer. Upon her passing, her husband Ernst provided a significant donation to Nickel Plate in recognition of Colleen’s love of the area.

The club’s original plan was to use the donation to fund the construction of a warming hut at Eagle’s Nest lookout. However the approval process to acquire a lease on the land that would provide protection and security for the proposed cabin was estimated to
take five or more years to complete with no assurance that a lease would be approved.

Faced with this long-time frame and uncertainty, the club, with Ernst's approval, has decided to honour Colleen’s memory in a different way. Naming the day lodge after Colleen represents the sense of community that Colleen, members and visitors feel when at Nickel Plate.

The donation that Ernst made to the club will be used to start on a refresh of Colleen’s lodge, beginning with the roofing project that we have been raising funds for this winter.

We thank Ernst and remember Colleen for this donation.

A huge thank you to Kal Tire for their generous donation, which helped us make exciting improvements to Nickel Plate Nordic Centre’s Ski Adventure Trail possible made possible through partnership with Cross Country BC

With their support, we purchased Ninja Ramps mountain bike jumps and installed seven new bumps along the trail to challenge and enhance the SDP kids program. These gentle up/down ramps help young skiers practice speed control, balance, and one-ski skills—and they’re already a huge hit!

The kids love them and can’t wait for Saturdays to beat their personal best. Thank you, Kal Tire, for investing in the future of Nordic skiing!
