This systematic review and meta-analysis investigated the dose-response relationship between aerobic exercise and adiposity measures in overweight or obese adults. Researchers analyzed data from 116 randomized controlled trials, finding that 30 minutes of weekly aerobic exercise modestly reduced body weight, waist circumference, and body fat. However, at least 150 minutes per week of moderate-to-vigorous intensity aerobic exercise was needed for clinically significant reductions in waist circumference and body fat. The study also explored the impact of aerobic exercise on other health outcomes, including quality of life and adverse events. Limitations, including high heterogeneity and potential publication bias, were acknowledged.
