WELCOME teachers, students and parents to the Nickel Plate School Program and to the exhilarating sport of cross-country skiing: a sport that is truly beneficial to all age groups; especially to the healthy growth and development of our youngsters.

Beginning with two Summerland schools in 1988 we now have twenty-six schools in the Okanagan / Similkameen area participating in this popular winter program.

Our facilities and location provide a comfortable lodge, warm washrooms, well groomed trails (ideal for beginner and intermediate student skiers), superb and consistent snow and plenty of sunshine above the cloudy valley. All this in a pristine and healthy alpine environment.

Grade 4/5’s. are the primary focus but due to the popularity of the program we have expanded to provide instructors, equipment and classes for students K-Gr.12. We can handle a max. of sixty-five students at one time.

We start in the week the students return from the Christmas vacation ( 1st. week in January) and finish on the Friday prior to Spring Break (2nd./3rd. week in March).

Our program is educational, social and physical with plenty of enjoyable activities as part of the learning experience. The majority of schools book for three sessions which provides continuity for the development of their skills and confidence on the trails. During these sessions students will learn and experience : safety on the trails, fundamental skills to confidently ski beginner and intermediate trails, and interaction with instructors and fellow students.

Parents are encouraged and welcome to come as chaperones. For this they will receive a complimentary Day Pass. Should they need equipment a nominal fee of $10.00 is charged.

Teachers with school groups pay no fee.

A special School Program rate of $16.00 per student per session covers equipment rental, day pass and approx. ninety minutes of instruction ( longer session before lunch, shorter after lunch).

Should a student have all their own equipment and/or be a member of Nickel Plate Club then a deduction is made to this fee.

Our enthusiastic and experienced instructors are all qualified and registered with Cross Country BC, the sport’s governing body in the province. We are committed to making students’ visits to Nickel

Plate an enjoyable, meaningful and rewarding experience.

We look forward to seeing you up at Nickel Plate Nordic Centre this coming season with your students.

REMEMBER:

Downhill skiers sit on their butt going uphill, Nordic skiers simply kick butt !
